DVD-writable and DVD-rewritable are optical recording technologies. DVDs in "R" format can be written once and read as many times as desired. DVDs in "RW" format can be erased and rewritten multiple times. Both DVD R and DVD RW are available in +/- formats. The essential difference between DVD +/- R and DVD +/- RW remains the same regardless of + or -. However, the DVD+R/RW is suitable for direct access and improves compatibility with DVD players.
A DVD-RW costs more than a DVD-R, and reading and writing information on a DVD-RW takes longer. However, the price difference between DVD-R and DVD-RW is becoming smaller and smaller.
Another difference between DVD R and DVD RW is compatibility. A DVD-R drive is an earlier model that can only write DVD-R discs, not DVD-RW discs. DVD-RW drives are backwards compatible and can read and write to both DVD-R and DVD-RW discs.
AutoJoy DVD players support all DVD-R and DVD-RW formats. No matter whether DVD +/- R or DVD +/- RW.
